| The North American Chapter is responsible for coordinating and developing ALPSP activities in North America. Its functions include: - Education and training: Developing and implementing (in collaboration with other organizations as appropriate) a continuing program of professional seminars, training courses, and other events tailored to the needs of a North American audience.
- Governance and advocacy: Providing a channel of communication to Council, Copyright Committee and the Secretariat about issues of concern to North American members, and providing people on the ground to draw up position statements, hold meetings, and communicate ALPSP concerns and suggestions to appropriate authorities and other relevant parties.
- Research and scholarship: Identifying issues on which research, reports, Advice Notes etc would be of particular value to North American members; providing a conduit for North American contributions to Learned Publishing via the appointment of a North American editor for LP.
- Communication: Providing a channel for sharing and exchanging information about publishing-related issues and developments of concern to ALPSP members outside North America via ALPSP Alert and other appropriate means.
- Cooperation: In carrying out its goals, the NA chapter is guided by ALPSP well-established operating philosophy of "filling the gaps". We actively seek to work together with other local scholarly publishing organizations and professionals, believing that it is only through the cooperative efforts of the entire, global, scholarly publishing community we can hope to realize our common goals and objectives.
- Social: Providing a social focus for North American ALPSP members.
