What is NLM DTD is all about - and why is it becoming the standard for preparing scholarly content for both books and journals. The speakers will explain its background and development, its use and application, and the benefits and challenges of adopting this new standard.  The National Library of Medicine (NLM) created the Journal Archiving and Interchange Document Type Definition (DTD) with the intention of providing a common format in which publishers and archives can exchange journal content. It was released in 2003 and has already been adopted by hundreds of journals worldwide. Journal compositors and service suppliers are already using it as the de facto standard full-text DTD for publishing.  The NLM DTD is also popular with aggregators. It is the 'house' system used by Atypon, the recommended DTD for full-text content at Ingenta and HighWire Press, and of course used by NLM for PubMed Central. Most recently the British Library and the Library of Congress have announced their support for NLM DTD as their archiving standard for electronic content.  It has also been adopted by Portico.

Who should attend?  Production Managers and Directors who are considering adopting this new standard; Senior Publishing Managers who need to be aware of the implications of NLM DTD for their work processes, and the impact it will have for their authors and contributors; and suppliers involved in content provision to the scholarly publishing community.
